Fall Finds #4 2018

Things got exciting at the big dump when a friend dug an A.J. Johnson Jr. (owl) Pawtucket, RI medicine. It is the only pictorial Pawtucket pharmacy, so I was very exited when he agreed to part with it in a trade.

There was some activity on ebay with a W.E. Cates Pharmacist Providence, RI medicine. No Cates with a mortar and pestle are listed, so it's a new one!

Recently one of the biggest dose glass collectors in the country decided it was time to sell his collection. I made two purchases, and much to my anguish the USPS lost one of the boxes. Thankfully the box with the embossed glasses made it. Among them was a W.H. Hinds Providence, RI dose cup.

Also in the lot was a Hall & Lyon Providence & Waltham dose cup. I really like two state bottles, and now that includes two state dose cups!

The big dump produced another exciting find, a nice medicine embossed Morgan in script. Sadly it was damaged, but it is definitely the same from the same Morgans Pharmacy my friend had!

Fall Finds #3 2018

Colored RI medicines are generally very elusive, so when I spotted a n amber J.R. Lorah & Co. Newport on ebay, I just had to have it. As a bonus it was an unlisted size!

I picked up a Hope Club Beverages Providence, RI semi-deco soda that brought back some fond memories. A similar soda was one of my first surface finds.

My friend from the last two posts also had a killer Geo. T. Dana & Co. Druggists Pawtucket, RI medicine. This one was rectangular which was an unlisted shape!

Also in his basement was a mysterious Morgan's Pharmacy. It didn't take me long to discover that it was a Pawtucket, RI medicine! This 5-1/4” size was the first of hopefully a few more!

I made a trip back to my friend's huge soda dump. Among a bunch of fun finds was a badly damaged ABM Batchelor's Bottling Works Woonsocket, RI. 

 

Fall Finds #2 2018

My same friend had an exciting unlisted Dr. Chas. H. French Pawtucket, RI sunning itself in his backyard! I was lucky enough to dig one a month later.

I'm getting close to finding all of the Standard bottles but there are still a few out there! A Standard Bottling Co. Pawtucket, RI narrow crown top isn't listed.

Another one was a Standard Bottling Co. Pawtucket, RI ABM crown top. While newer these are pretty tough to find.

One of my favorite sodas he had was a S.H. Zucker & Co. Pawtucket, RI with an address on it! Normally Zuckers are pretty common but this one really stands out.

An Albert P. Carpenter Reg. Pharmacist Central Falls, RI was an 3-1/2” size. 

Fall Finds #1 2018

Back in the mega-dump I dug a crier W.H. Grimes Co. Pawtucket, RI monogrammed blob. Thankfully on the next dig I found a whole one!

A digger in northern RI was selling off the remainder of his collection, and among them was a Geo. E. McGunagle Druggist Pawtucket, RI in an unlisted 5” size.

He also had a Fisk & Co. Druggists Pawtucket, RI square also in an unlisted 3-1/2” size.

The unlisted size parade continued with a Barbour's Westerly & Watch Hill, RI measuring 4-3/8”.

I met up with an old digging friend who had a few RI bottles lying around. One was a Providence Wine Co. Inc. Providence, RI in clear. I have the listed color which is aqua.

Summer Finds #4 2018

Believe it or not this is blog 200!  That means I've documented over 1000 unlisted RI bottles so far.  It's pretty hard to believe, and at this rate there has to be a couple hundred more out there!

The one that almost got away joined it's little brother last summer! An extremely rare 7-1/4” Paine's Vegetable Pain Curer. This is the hardest to find size and this one has a different top than the others!

The Westford CT show was quiet but I did get yet another Otis Clapp & Son! This one is a nice larger 8-1/4” square.

One of my old haunts was getting landscaped, so I had one last go at it before it was gone for good. Among the goods was a nice Alfred Barth & Brother Providence, RI medicine. It was an unlisted 5” size.

Back at the mega-dump a real crier turned up. A small size Combination Ladder Co. (Providence). These are hard to find, and this new size is exciting! I hope there's a whole one out there.

I usually don't pay a lot for common pharmacy bottles unless there's something special about them. When it comes to large sizes that's one of my weaknesses. An 8-1/4” Fisk & Co. Druggists Pawtucket, RI rounds out my Fisk collection now.

Summer Finds #3 2018

A fellow northern RI digger has been turning up a few RI bottles. Among them was a Blanding & Blanding Pharmacists Providence, RI in an unlisted 8-1/8” size.

One of his best finds was a Household Doctor, Life Saver 30 Years, which is actually a Dr. Harrison's Pain Curer missing the front panel embossing. How interesting!

I added another very rare RI fruit jar, this time it was the older Earle & Perry Pat. April 17, 1877. A friend who collects jars was nice enough to part with it in a trade.

It is very rare for a Craigslist ad to pay off. This one did, though it was just one bottle. The Mason B. Woods Druggist Watchemoket, RI was an unlisted 4-1/2” size.

A friend spotted this tough to find L.P. Beaudry & William Harrop Pawtucket, RI medicine at a flea market. It was also an unlisted 5-1/2” size.

Summer Finds #2 2018

A couple on the upper East Side put an addition on their house and discovered it was built on a dump. The bottles dated to the later 1910s, and while most were common a J.A. Hebert Central Falls, RI whiskey caught my eye. I have one in a quart size, and it's the only whiskey from Central Falls. This pint makes an excellent addition!

Back at my friends' giant bottling factory dump I found a great crier. A J. Lipfschitz Providence, RI soda with a painful chunk out of the neck. There are no examples listed with a monogram, and this one looks nice!

One classic RI pictorial soda is Bell Bottling Co. Providence, RI. While not rare, there are apparently a few variants. This was the first one I've seen with no slugplate.

Thanks to a house cleanout in Barrington, I was able to grab a few quart sodas. A heel embossed Sherba Beverage Co. West Barrington, RI is nothing special looking, but I sure wonder what the label looked like!

The other quart was a shoulder/heel embossed Deep Rock West Barrington, RI in clear. I have one in green and both are unlisted.
